Bahrain is a small monarchy of desert plains about 700 square kilometres in area, consisting of 36 islands located at the eastern coast of the Persian Gulf. Saudi Arabia and Bahrain are also interconnected by a causeway. It is a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council which has six member countries, the others being Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
